ECOTIC collected 28,316 tons of WEEE in 2019.

2019 was an important year for ECOTIC: from reaching its collection target and implementing a record number of local campaigns to opening new collection centers in Romania.

In 2019 ECOTIC has set a record in the management of electrical and electronic waste in Romania, reaching the WEEE collection target of 28,316 tons. This was achieved by means of a well-structured operational activity and by the opening of two new collections Centers: ECOTIC Transylvania in the center of the country and ECOTIC Moldova, in the eastern part of Romania. Likewise, the national network of WEEE and WBA collection points open to the public reached 8.100, thus providing collection solutions closer to the citizens.

Our producers, always at the forefront, benefitted from 14 seminars in which they learned more about legislative changes and reporting procedures as well as from a variety of employee-oriented campaigns meant to raise awareness on the separate collection of WEEE and WBA. The services we offered were evaluated with 93.29% degree of satisfaction from our producers.

Local campaigns have long been part and parcel of ECOTIC efforts to raise awareness on the issue of separate collection of WEEE and WBA, and in 2019 it was no different. 53 campaigns were organized last year, both in urban and rural areas, under the already well-known names of “Clean Cities”, “Clean Villages” and “Recycling Station”. Our efforts also focused on developing WEEE pick-up services from home/ office in major cities such as Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Bucharest, Brașov and in Ilfov county.

An important achievement was the release of the study “Quantification of WEEE generated in Romania 2019”, which offers an analysis of the WEEE market in Romania, the stock of electrical and electronic waste from Romanian households and the collection potential of this type of waste. The study was conducted by the consulting company SOFIES, with the support of the National Institute of Economic Research. Likewise, it offers essential recommendations for our collection strategy in the context of target growth starting in 2021.

The annual projects implemented under ECOTIC brand continued in 2019 as well. “Ecoterrian's School ”and“ Little Ones Do Great Deeds ” focusing on pupils and small children continued teaching the little ones about the environment protection and the importance of separate collection. For a Clean Environment - Awards Gala at its 11th edition, continued to award companies, NGOs, educational institutions and public institutions for the implementation of projects focusing on environmental protection.

And last, but not least, the International e-Waste Day was organized between 14th and 18th of October and featured visits of the ECOTIC Caravan to several schools in Ilfov County, two awareness raising campaigns aimed at ECOTIC producers, as well as collection campaigns organized in partnership with GreenWEEE in Cluj County and with the Environmental Protection Agency in Satu Mare.

2019 was a year full of campaigns, projects and efforts to bring collection solutions closer to the citizens.
