Greenglass-glass recycling plant was inaugurated on December 5, 2013 near Bucharest, in Popesti Leordeni, after an investment of 4 million euros.
Greenglass has a capacity of over 110,000 tons of glass and can process all the waste glass from Bucharest in just 7 days.
Green Group, one of the leading investors in the green industry in Romania, inaugurated on 05 December Greenglass Recycling. This factory is located in close proximity to the capital, in the former industrial site Danubiana. Waste glass granules are processed here in very high purity (99.99%), which are further used in industrial manufacturing process of glass. The plant will have a total processing capacity of 110,000 tons of glass waste annually.
Using glass from waste disposal companies, construction and automotive industry, HoReCa system, from municipal waste sorting stations and the collector, Greenglass directly contributes in reducing the amount of waste glass that reaches landfills. Greenglass representatives estimated that the plant can process all the waste glass from Bucharest in just 7 days.
"In Romania, the amount of glass monitored annually put on the market in the form of packaging is approximately 200,000 tons, plus an unmonitored amount of over 300,000 tons of flat glass used in construction, as well as significant quantities of glass from industry itself. Talking about a material increasingly used in various industries, but remained in last place in terms of recycling, although we have strict targets for this type of waste management" said Constantin Damova, co-founder of Green Glass Recycling.
Waste recycling target for glass packaging for Romania as EU member state is 60% of the amount placed on the market, since 2012. In the first year of operation, Greenglass representatives estimate that the plant will process over 30,000 tons of glass, followed by an annual increase of 15,000 tons, to achieve maximum capacity.
Factory develops the following operations: grinding, heat treatment, magnetic separation of the metal, vacuuming plastic and labels, manual sorting and grading according to the grain, and the final product consists of glass beads, pure color and extremely high material. Greenglass is the only plant in Romania and Eastern Europe having last generation sorting installations that can produce glass beads having a purity of 99.99%.
Among the most important customers of Greenglass are the local glass packaging producers, flat glass and fiberglass, but the material can go in export, the demand for recycled glass is increasing worldwide.
