The statement is part of the interview with Valentin Negoita, ECOTIC President , CSRevolution on August 1st 2013.

“It’s almost impossible in this century people, to exist families or households that do not use electrical and electronic equipment. At least if we speak of European part of the world. But what happens when they are no longer functional? A solution to this problem is given by Valentin Negoiţă, ECOTIC President .

CSRevolution: Can you give us some examples of programs that have as aim the awareness at the level of recycling electrical and electronic appliances?
Valentin Negoiţă, ECOTIC President : Annually ECOTIC develops a wide range of awareness raising activities and directions to both individuals and legal entities. From 2007 to present, ECOTIC conducted 50 awareness and collection campaigns. Since the beginning of 2013 we developed: Eco Education – project for students, collection campaigns: Botosani, Drobeta Turnu Severin, Suceava, in District  2 of Bucharest, and now an ongoing photo and video contest “I wish a Cleaner Romania “initiated with the platform Hotnews.ro,  activity part of a Swiss-funded project.

CSRevolution: How many points for collecting waste electrical and electronic appliances are there in Romania?
Valentin Negoiţă, ECOTIC President : We can confirm that there are currently about 450 collection points in the ECOTIC system. The national number is known by the authorities.

CSRevolution: What role has ECOTIC in the collection, reuse, recycling and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)?
Valentin Negoiţă, ECOTIC President: ECOTIC is a collective scheme that takes over the responsibility of approximately 375 manufacturers / importers of electrical and electronic equipment. ECOTIC works with licensed operators for the collection, treatment, and recycling on behalf of the affiliated producers to fulfill their targets. In 2012, ECOTIC has collected more than 7,300 tons of electrical and electronic equipment waste, from an estimated total of 20,000 tons. In order to fulfill our responsibilities we constantly organize awareness raising activities in partnership with local authorities.

CSRevolution: If we have a TV that is no longer functional, but we want to recycle, what should we do?

Valentin Negoiţă, President ECOTIC: The solution should be the handover to the nearest collection point.

On the ECOTIC website (www.ecotic.ro) we have a dedicated webpage where you can find the location of the collection points where you hand over any type of waste electrical and electronic equipment and batteries. "
