ECO Days in Your School! - the first stage of the campaign is nearly ending

The first stage of ECOTIC's campaign "ECO Days in Your School!" ends this month. The message of the campaign reached over 50.000 students in 104 schools in Romania

ECOTIC's Caravan was started in 2014 and will continue at national level until 2016; it hosted a series of actions and complementary campaigns in order to reach as large an audience as possible. "ECO Days in Your Schools!" is one of these campaigns and it targets students, teachers and parents.

“ECO Days in Your School!” started on November 13th 2014, within the ECOTIC Caravan, a comprehensive project for WEEE collection and awareness. The end of the school year means the end of the first stage of the campaign, so it's a good time to draw the line and enjoy our team's results and achievements!

Any organization working on raising public awareness on important issues like WEEE recycling knows that children are probably the most important and sensitive audience. And that is because they are open, fresh and amazingly creative and receptive. Our message to them must be clear and honest - and given in a way as to maintain their interest. It’s no easy job, yet ECOTIC worked together with wonderful teachers from 104 schools in 23 towns; we managed to organize over 600 hours of eco-education and a lot of other amazing activities.

The children were involved in creative contests: they made works of art from waste materials that were even exhibited in local venues; they made drawings and written essays, they even entered an eco-themed photo-video contest. They planted trees and flowers and cleaned the school surroundings, animated by that sort of enthusiasm that catches on so fast. This is the merit of children - when persuaded with something they work so hard and passionately.

As a consequence, many schools managed to collect large quantities of WEEE and battery waste. The children involved their parents and together they entered the big final contest that will award three important prizes to the schools that delivered the best results: first prize - an Eco camp for 20 students; second prize - an intelligent schoolboard; third price - a video projector and a home-cinema system.

We are eagerly waiting to find out who the lucky winners will be. Until then, we want to thank everybody - teachers, parents and especially children. They made us believe that we have so many to count on in our work for a clean environment! See you all in September, at the start of the second stage of the “ECO Days in Your School!” campaign!
