European industry is launching a new online platform on how to best recycle e-waste

To respond to requests for information from recyclers on the presence of hazardous substances ine-chains, manufacturers and responsibility transfer organizations have joined the initiative to create the "Information for recyclers - I4R" platform, a unique source that includes a wide range of information and recommendations on how to handle hazardous substances: http://www.i4r-platform.eu

DIGITALEUROPE and CECED, together with WEEE Forum, the international association of WEEE transfer responsibility organizations, of which ECOTIC is a part, are launching a joint online platform - I4R. This new platform will allow recyclers to access information about hazardous materials in equipment. WEEE Forum will host and manage the platform.

“We want to provide solutions to this problem, and the I4R platform is essential to better inform managers in the recycling industry and train workers in safety issues. By providing information at product group level, the I4R platform will help recyclers to optimize sorting where appropriate," said Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, CEO of DIGITALEUROPE.

"The added value of the I4R platform will benefit not only recyclers and industry, but also all European citizens. It is another example of industries working together to contribute to a Circular Society, this time by supporting recycling and the recovery of secondary raw materials", emphasized Paolo Falcioni, Director General of CECED.

"The I4R platform is an important step in improving treatment processes and compliance in general. Easily accessible information about the presence of hazardous substances in waste is what recyclers need," says Pascal Leroy, Secretary General of the WEEE Forum.

We invite all actors in the field, especially recycling operators, to register on the platform by accessing this link https://i4r-platform.eu/registration/

Context

Article 15 of Directive 2012/19 / EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) requires manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) to provide free information on preparation for re-use and treatment for each type of EEE placed on the market. In 2005, CECED and DIGITALEUROPE, representing the manufacturers of household appliances and IT & C / consumer electronics and EERA electronics recyclers, agreed on the format of this information. Since then, manufacturers have collected the information in a harmonized reporting format for each product on their websites. Today, these organizations are launching a common online platform.
