ECOTIC BAT, together with ECOTIC Association, in partnership with Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, with the support GreenWEEE International, InfoCons and Recycling Map, launches the national public information campaign on the need for separate collection of used batteries and, in particular, batteries containing lithium.

Separate collection of used batteries starts at home. Every home should have a container, maybe a jar, where used batteries are temporarily stored. Special attention should be paid to button cell batteries. Given their small size, there is a risk that they will be swallowed by children once they are within their reach. Here An informative video for parents on this topic is available.

All used batteries should be taken to designated recycling bins in stores that sell batteries. These collection points can be found on www.hartareciclarii.ro.

In order to stimulate the circular economy and having a similar objective to the European directive on the common USB-C charger, the European regulation on batteries and battery waste from 2023 specifies the obligation to offer consumers the possibility of dismantling and replacing portable batteries from equipment starting February 2027.

What does this regulation mean? Consumers will once again be able to replace their own batteries in devices, such as lithium-ion batteries in mobile phones and laptops. Manufacturers will be required to market these batteries separately and provide instructions and information on how to safely remove and replace them.

ECOTIC BAT has created and launched un GUIDE and a material VIDEO which explains the steps for separate collection of used batteries, as well as precautionary methods for recycling lithium-containing and coin-cell batteries. Details here.

Before handing over used batteries to collection points, you must Cover the connectors of batteries containing Lithium and the entire coin-cell battery with adhesive tape. This prevents short-circuiting through contact with other batteries.

Separate collection of batteries is the responsibility of all parties involved, from producers, consumers, public authorities, collection operators, retailers, each contributing to environmental protection and the recovery of critical raw materials, such as Lithium.

It all starts with separate collection at home and ends with the treatment and recovery of secondary raw materials and their reintroduction into production, within the CIRCULAR ECONOMY.

"We are launching this information campaign with the aim of providing consumers with recommendations and examples of good practices regarding methods of storing and handing over used batteries safely to collection points dedicated to handing them over for recycling," declares Valentin Negoiță, President of ECOTIC.
