In April 2015, the European WEEE Directive (2012/19 / EU) was transposed at national legislative level into Emergency Ordinance 5/2015. The ordinance establishes new coordinates for the process of WEEE collection and recycling, and ECOTIC responded to the clear need for information on the new Ordinance by organizing a seminar for producers, but also for the general public - through the media.

On May 12, 2015, ECOTIC organized in Bucharest an information seminar on GEO 5/2015. All ECOTIC and ECOTIC BAT affiliated producers were invited to this seminar, as well as producers who wanted more information about the new GEO. Representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, of the National Agency for Environmental Protection, together with Av. Magdalena Popescu detailed the regulations introduced in April, regulations that increase the recycling threshold imposed on WEEE producers and impose measures meant to encourage the collection of WEEE from Romanian households.

At an overview of GEO 5/2015, there are two major objectives, as stated by Mr. Valentin Negoita, President of ECOTIC: environmental protection, on the one hand, and economic stake, on the other hand, by revaluing recovered raw materials through the recycling process.

Many of the aspects discussed in the seminar card were taken over by the media, especially national televisions, thus succeeding in disseminating information to the general public. It is an essential aspect and we are glad that ECOTIC initiatives arouse interest and serve the public interest.
