2021 marks the launch of the first toner treatment plant in Romania

WOOD Expert Solutions launched in the middle of this year the first toner treaty installation in Romania, with a treatment capacity of 6 tons / 8 hours. It is located in Bucharest and treats all types of toners containing powder, by means of nitrogen injection, necessary to prevent a possible explosion of toners.

If until now, printer cartridges and toners ended up in landfills or incinerators, this treatment and recycling solution reduces toner incineration by 90%.

Toners that end up in landfills or are dumped at random can pollute the environment and affect our health. Powder, representing 10% of the toner weight, is composed of plastic particles smaller than 3 microns, which if they reach the environment pollute irreversibly. Separate collection of CIP toners is done in centers dedicated to the collection of electrical and electronic waste and, later, recycling, helps reduce pollution, reduce solid waste generated and reuse raw materials to make new products.

"We are glad that we managed to launch this installation, at European standards, after a few years of work. In this way, we meet the needs of compliant collection and recycling of toners at national level and we hope that in the short and medium term, the number of those who end up in landfills or incinerators will decrease "said Horia Irimescu, General Manager of WOOD Expert Solutions.

Toners contain a number of materials that are recovered by recycling: plastic, iron, aluminum, stainless steel, brass and copper. Thus, it contributes significantly to the protection of the environment, saving natural resources by reintroducing secondary raw materials into the production circuit. To this end, WOOD Expert Solutions is developing a project to transform toner powder into household items.

The toners delivered to ECOTIC are treated and recycled at the WOOD Expert Solutions partner.

"Most operators transfer toners to energy recovery. What is special about this installation is the separation of fractions, the large volume processed per hour and the fact that 75% of the weight of a toner ends up being recycled and not recovered. We welcome such projects and we want to have as many such initiatives among our partners as possible. ” said Sabina Pîrvulescu, ECOTIC Operations Director.
