ECO Education, the program to develop the responsible attitude of students and teachers towards waste, especially towards WEEE and waste batteries and accumulators (DB / A), has named its winners.
Between January 28 and March 30, 77 schools in Romania participated in this program, the coordinating teachers carrying out several educational activities in the gymnasium classes in the spirit of environmental protection. Over 3.500 students they were involved in the program, also involving in the ecological approach the families, friends and colleagues from other educational institutions and the communities they belong to.

Through the efforts made almost 2.700 kg of used batteries were collected, the collection of these types of waste in the containers provided by ECOTIC BAT being one of the activities included in the program.
Other targeted activities were:
• ECO Education classes in classrooms, but also in the wider framework, at school level, based on the materials provided by the organizers
• Drawing class on ecological themes
• Establishing the degree of assimilation of ECO knowledge of students through a grid test

Given the involvement and very good results, significantly equal, of the first place, which collected about a third of the total amount of used batteries in the project, the organizers of ECO Education decided that the Grand Prize to reward the efforts of 3 classes and not one alone.

The winners of the Grand Prize in the ECO Education Program are:
• XNUMXrd grade from the “Ioan Petrus” Theoretical High School, Otopeni, teacher-coordinator Marinescu Eugenia
• XNUMXth grade from the “Ion Creanga” Gymnasium School, Cluj, teacher-coordinator Ioia Manuela
• First Class from Martisor School, Bucharest, teacher-coordinator Pop Irina Laura

Class VII of "Ion Creanga" Gymnasium School, Cluj, visited Total Waste Recycling on May 10. The students were explained in detail the waste circuit of electrical and electronic equipment, as well as the potential dangers and risks involved in their improper management.

The ECO Education program was in its first edition, being organized by ECOTIC, ECOTIC BAT and Junior Achievement Romania, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of National Education and the National Environmental Guard.

The project enjoyed a good reception and commitment from the teachers-coordinators, from which we selected the following statements:

  • "The program was interesting for students and especially useful because waste is a community issue. Our school will continue to collect used batteries even if the contest is over; I posted an announcement on the doors at the entrance to the institution so that parents would know and bring them to our school, not to throw them in the trash. I wish you all the best! ”- prof. Luminita Morosanu-“ Alecu Russo ”Gymnasium School, Bacau
  • "The program was received with great enthusiasm by my students. They were extremely excited and felt very important during this period. They alerted neighbors, friends and acquaintances and explained to them how "harmful" the batteries are to the environment and that they have a mission to save it as much as they can, collecting them at the school where they will be taken for recycling. Students like to be useful and learn many interesting things in a different way than the traditional one in the classroom. Many thanks!" Florina Itineantu - teacher for the primary cycle, “Dimitrie Leonida” Technical College, Timisoara
  • "We thank you for the opportunity you have given us to promote the principles of a balanced life, by saving energy and paying attention to resources and the planet. The students participated with interest, appreciated and got involved in making the drawings, proving through their behavior the care for our planet. They collected batteries, but not only that, the project opened their eyes to other types of waste that can be recycled. " - Claudia Puzdrea, Deputy Director and Coordinator for the Eco Education program, “George Calinescu” Gymnasium School, sector 5, Bucharest
  • "Students understood that if we want to change something for the better, we must all contribute and that they have the most important role, which often has to explain to parents and grandparents the importance of a clean environment." prof. Daniela Murgescu, “Gh. I. Bratianu ”, Iasi
