GEO 5/2015 resumed its normal course in the Romanian Parliament after a period of deadlock. Commission for Environment and Ecological Balance convened a first meeting on 14.06.2016. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Lucia Varga and enjoyed the presence of actors in the field of WEEE, except for local authorities.

ECOTIC expressed its point of view on improving the current situation, aspects such as:

  • Involvement of all actors in achieving national goals;
  • Active involvement of local authorities by providing a public WEEE collection service (at a collection center);
  • Combating parallel WEEE flows;
  • Reviewing the authorization process of WEEE treatment operators;

 The written view submitted to the Commission is here.

The conclusion of the meeting was that GEO 5/2015 must be analyzed in detail, in working groups organized by the Commission, in order to reach a form that meets the most important needs.

On 05.07.2016, the Commission convened the first working group. In this debate, on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, the new Secretary of State - Raul Pop was present.
