ECOTIC and the Municipality of Iasi brought home good practices in WEEE collection and recycling from Norway

In May 2015 ECOTIC, represented by its Operational Manager, Nicoleta Lazar, led a Romanian-Norwegian exchange of experience between the municipalities of Iasi, Oslo and Drammen; the purpose of the action was to offer the Romanian part a direct experience with the long lasting efficiency of the Norwegian WEEE collection, recycling and valuation systems.

This exchange in Norway is part of a broader program dedicated to the development of green economy competitiveness in Romania, Steps for WEEE, developed by ECOTIC and co-financed by Norway Grants.

The purpose of the program is the set-up of a municipal collection center based on a West-European model; the municipality that positively answered ECOTIC's initiative was Iasi. The trip to Norway was a necessary step to make the relevant structures in Romania - local public and environmental authorities, sanitation infrastructure - aware of what kind of efficiency can be achieved during the whole cycle of disposing of a WEEE: from its collection to the valuation of its components.

We want to thank the Iasi City Hall, Salubris Iasi and ADIS for their proven involvement and availability. It was a big step towards our goal of helping create a clean Romanian environment.
