Protecting the environment is our responsibility, all of us, whether we do it actively or by promoting good practices in the field. However, positive examples are often overlooked by the press, making it difficult for the general public.

In this context, ECOTIC and the Union of Professional Journalists in Romania announce the launch, on May 3, of the national ecological journalism contest entitled "Eco journalism for a clean environment" in order to promote role models in the field of environmental protection and conservation of global resources .

Between May 3 and September 14, people with a minimum age of 18 who work as journalists, reporters, or are students at specialized faculties in Romania, are invited to get involved in environmental protection by submitting video and written materials accompanied of relevant photos at the address jurnalism@www.ecotic.ro. Topics include positive examples developed by companies, educational institutions, NGOs, public institutions or local communities, such as plantings, greening, recyclable waste collection projects and waste prevention initiatives, among others.

The best and most innovative 10 materials - respectively, 5 materials video and 5 written materials - chosen by a jury of environmental experts and journalists will be presented on the Facebook page and on the ECOTIC website. The winners will be chosen by public vote.

The contest will run according to the following schedule:

  • STAGE I - May 3 - September 14, 2018 - the period of transmission of video / written materials;
  • STAGE II - September 17 - 19, 2018 - the prejudice period;
  • STAGE III - September 20 - October 5, 2018 - voting for the winning materials on the Ecotic Facebook page and on the Ecotic website.

ECOTIC will award two prizes, one prize for each category: a camera for the video material category and a laptop for the written material category.

The award ceremony will take place at the XNUMXth edition of the Clean Environment Awards Gala.

The "Eco-journalism for a clean environment" competition is part of ECOTIC's awareness-raising activities over time and aimed at the public of all ages and aims, in the long term, to create a network of environmental journalists animated by ecological values.

“We are launching this contest out of the desire to popularize with the support of the media projects and initiatives meant to stimulate the creativity of local communities in the field of environmental protection. We consider that the highlighting of good practices, little known to the general public, will contribute to the development of a pro-active attitude of Romanians in the direction of improving environmental factors and efficient use of resources ", says Valentin Negoiță, ECOTIC President.
